In Long Beach, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in California, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. Typical hours are 9 amβ5 pm. It is closed on Sunday. Long Beach is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Long Beach is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

As a San Diegan, I'm happy to make the drive to Rosales Nursery for their plants. They consistently offer healthy, vibrant plants/succulents. Their customer service is always outstanding. Even though I have local choices, I prefer to wait and visit Rosales Nursery.

This place has an amazing selection of plants and great prices. Lots of unique and rare finds. Itβs so much fun walking through their little tents/green houses and seeing what they have to offer. I found the plant I was looking for plus went home with some other goodies I stumbled upon. I would check their Instagram for recent shipments before going. 10/10, canβt wait to go back again soon.

I went HAM at this nursery. Prices are cheaper than 90% of the stores youβll buy from in Southern California and youβre supporting a small business! This is definitely more of a βpick your own adventureβ experience, so if you come expecting a ton of organization and cookie cutter plants, youβll be disappointed. But if you come ready to traverse the many beautiful, lush gardens with their many available wagons, youβll have a great time. Also, friendly customer service!
